Separate three layers of knowledge
A model brochure describes options and baseline data, a manual explains operation and limits, and private history shows what happened to the actual boat. None replaces the others.
Assign every document to manufacturer, model, component, language, edition and date so later work can verify that it matches the installed version.
Prefer official sources
Start with manufacturer download and owner areas. Without an appropriate licence, MyBoatDesk does not republish third-party public files; it stores reviewed metadata and official links.
If a source disappears or becomes ambiguous, its status remains visible. A similar title and model name alone do not make a file authoritative.
Match the actual boat
Engine, gearbox, chargers, heating, navigation and other systems may differ from the production standard. Plates, serial numbers and invoices help select the correct manual.
Record missing documents as open purchase-file items. Do not silently borrow safety- or cost-relevant instructions from a neighbouring model.
Private files remain private
Invoices, photos and manuals lawfully provided by an owner belong to the private boat record. Public catalogue sources and private documents stay technically and legally separate.
Exports and ownership transfers preserve originals, versions and links. Subscription changes never remove historical read, original download or export rights to the owner’s own data.
Verify a document result
Compare title, document number, revision, language and stated model range with the plate and build year. A result on a third-party download site is only a lead. Before values become maintenance tasks, establish the match through a manufacturer source or clearly documented provenance.
Store URL, access date and status such as official, owner-provided or unresolved. If a source changes, the record still shows which edition informed an earlier decision.
Separate rights from practical usefulness
A publicly discoverable PDF is not automatically licensed for redistribution. MyBoatDesk can catalogue metadata and a link while the file remains with the rights holder. A user’s own originals stay private and enter only authorised exports.
Also check that the document is complete, legible and useful aboard. A scanned contents page without the wiring diagram or instructions for a successor model do not answer the maintenance question.
